Tenskatawa was known as the “Shawnee Prophet” (January 1775 – November 1836) and was the younger brother of Tecumsah, the famous leader of the Shawnee Native American tribe. During a drunken stupor in which he had a prophetic vision, he underwent a transformative mystical experience. When he awoke, he understood and espoused the importance of living virtuously and a return to traditional Native American values.
